Sermon Notes – September 8, 2024
Why are you here?
Our mission: To glorify God through the fulfillment of the Great Commission in the spirit of the Great Commandment.
What does it mean to: glorify God
God is holy!
Isaiah 6:1-3, “I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD!”
When we say that God is holy, we’re saying that He is infinitely perfect in every way.
- Infinitely perfect in His existence
- Infintely perfect in His being
- Infinitely perfect in His abilities
- Infinitely perfect in His character
- Infinitely perfect in His beauty
- Infinitely perfect in every way: HOLY!
If you trace it back far enough – everything worthy of thanks and praise and awe and adoration in the universe is ultimately because of God, and so it’s right for Him – and him alone – to make everything about Himself.
Not only is it right for God to make His glory His mission, it’s also best for us.
5 Ways to reflect and draw attention to his Glory.
(1) Praising Him!
(2) Pursuing personal sanctification
(3) Use the unique gifts GOd’s given His people to serve one another
(4) By telling others about who Jesus is and what He’s done for you
(5) Whatever we do should be done to the glory of God.
Whatever you do, do it to the glory of God, because glorifying God isn’t just God’s mission or this church’s mission – it is your mission!
